Are Companies Ready for Baby Boomers to Retire?

Earlier this week the Society for Human Resource Management and AARP  released a poll that showed U.S. employers are ramping up skills training and employee benefits aimed at closing the skills gap when the baby boomers retire.

They also seem intent on retaining and recruiting older workers. More than 70% of hr professional polled say the loss of older workers is a problem or will be a problem for their organization

 

Among the efforts afoot to plug this skills gap…companies polled are doing the following..

…hired retired employees as consultants or temporary workers (30 percent);

…offered flexible work arrangements (27 percent); and

…designed part-time positions to attract older workers (24 percent).
