Coming Soon–It’s a Summer of Movies about Work

June 29th, 2011 by admin in Careers, colleagues, jobs skills

During an evening at the movies during the summer a viewer doesn’t expect to pulled back into the office. Yet that’s exactly what appears to be happening at the mult-plex this summer. With the unemployment rate still hovering around 9%, the big screen is the place where we can see work relationships unfold.

Forgetting for a minute about The Company Men  which is already on cable, currently movie goers can see  Page One  about the workings of  The New York Times  and opening next week Horrible Bosses a romp with sinister overtones.

In the upcoming Larry Crowne Tom Hanks gets fired and he finds a second chance, and romance with Julia Roberts, who is working when they meet in her classroom when he decides to attend community college.

What are the film makers saying about our relationship to work? And are there any lessons in these movies that we can take back to our real workplaces?
